The auctions were noisy as usual, filled with many horses needing a home and humans buying them. Some had been at the auctions for a long time and others were newer. One of these was an arabian mare. She attracted alot of attention as she was unloaded from a trailer.Rearing she tried to kick out at her captors so they would let her go.People gathered around her, making the mare more nervous and fearful than she already was,if that was possible. As she was taken and put into a pen with a couple of other horses, she noticed that some of the older stallions and mares were laughing at her,or at least it seemed like it.
The once pure white pelt of the mare was now littered with many small dark scars, giving the impression that she had been abused, which she had.Her blondish white mane and tail had missing strands from being jerked and torn out.The missing strands would grow back, eventually. Her previous owners had commented that she still looked like an Angelic horse, and had named her Angel. The way she looked now was far from angelic.
The mare kept at the back of the pen she was being held in,kicking at anything that came near.It was obvious that she was scared by her movements and her attitude.Alot of humans had come and looked at her, even tried to handle her but they were charged out of the pen and left muttering about how sad it was for such a horse to be like that.Of course it wasnt her fault, she was raised to fear people and most times other equines.
Angel raced around the pen, cursing that the sides of it were to high for her to jump, otherwise she would have been out of there in no time.Pawing at the ground she backed up again into one of the back corners of the pen looking around with fearful eyes.

Lake Bundy didn’t know why he was back in the auctions, but the young man was. He was already in a pending sale for a bay colt that showed fiery promise, and he had managed to catch a wild stallion; so why was he here? Maybe it was a subconscious reaction to having three horses in his past, and now that they were gone . . . L wanted three horses again. Finding another gorgeous equine here would top-off his luck, that had been going his way for some reason. Hopefully this would be his last trip here, because he really couldn’t handle being tempted by more horses. Lake did enjoy looking for promising equines, but it pained him to leave them behind after just visiting. He loved visiting the horses here, but it was also saddening to see the same graceful creatures here, week after week. The young man feared that there might be abuse going on in the auctions, but there was no way to solidly tell.
The fair-haired man pulled into the gravel parking lot, hearing Scout and Boo Radley barking in the back. He smiled to himself and pulled out a couple of leashes to keep them on. Lake grabbed his keys and jumped out of his red truck, whistling to his large Irish Wolfhounds. They became excited and he had to calm them down just to get their leashes on. Being well-trained, they both knew to jump out when the man whistled. Both dogs did, and Lake smiled, knowing they were an impressive sight. Scout and Boo walked obediently by his side, not daring to tug at their leashes. That was the reason why he allowed them to come to the auction house: they didn’t disobey him and were well-trained. Unless Lake let them loose, neither dog would be a nuisance. The two of them grew-up around horses, anyways; so it wasn’t as if they were walking into uncharted territory. Lake tightened his grip on the leads when they walked through the large doors.
Immediately, L’s attention was stolen by a gorgeous white equine causing a commotion. It was rearing and neighing like it was going mad. Obviously, the horse was scared. Both dogs were watching the scene, ears pricked to attention. Lake wanted to scream at the men for their rough handling, but they had the ivory animal in a pen before he could do anything. Which was good, because the young man had been striding angrily toward the commotion. Changing his course, L walked to the horse’s pen. It was in there with a few other horses, but the man paid them little mind. His blue eyes read the information that the men had just put up. He gave them a semi-disgusted look, then turned back to the mare. It was crazy, but L lifted himself up and sat on the fencing that the white mare was circling wildly.

Growing up,the white mare had heard stories of the lucky ones with perfect homes. The ones that got fed two or three times a day.Apples, and oats, even sweet grass and hay.Humans that never hurt them, take them on nice trail rides and give them a happy perfect life. She doubted that she would ever get to experience that.To her those stories were only fairy tales like the ones that were told to human children.Besides who ever got a happy ending in actual real life?Certainly not anyone she knew.
Mused in her thoughts about her future,Angel didnt see the fair-haired young man coming over to her pen with two dogs.As soon as the scent of the dogs presented itself to her nose, her head snapped up to stare at them. Both were bigger than the hounds and other dogs she had been around. That scared her a bit,if the hounds she had watched tear into her stablemates, then what could these two do to her? Then her eyes flickered up to the man as he climbed up to sit on top of the fence. He was certainly one of the bravest she had noticed to risk climbing the fence like that. She kept pawing nervously at the ground keeping her eyes fixed on the man.The arabian wouldnt hesitate to run him out if he came to close, which she hoped wouldnt be the case.

Lake’s sky blue gaze watched the white mare, a bit of a challenge in them. Would she charge him? He almost dared her to. He stared her down, catching her chocolate gaze every once and a while. She pawed the ground in an anxious way, making Lake admire her fine build. She really was a brilliant creature; she had nicely sculpted muscles—maybe a little on the thin side, but that could be fixed—her build was delicate yet strong, and her coat had the potential to shine like marble. He noted the small black markings dotting her body, but they looked like something that would eventually have hair grow back over it. L dropped his head, sad at what the scars must have meant. The abuse explained her troubles when being put into the pen, the way she was staring at the man, and the black marks. He was sad that such a wonderful creature could be so abused an broken, but that built a resolve to help her—the young man was now determined to see if this mare had more spark than spite.
With a determined smile aimed at the ivory equine, Lake jumped down on the other side. He turned to his dogs that were now staring expectantly up at L. He whistled softly and said, “Stay,” his voice soft but commanding. The two sat down and wagged their tails. The young man bent down and ruffled the fur on their heads, telling them they were good dogs. Satisfied with their behavior, L dropped their leads and hopped back over the fence. A small crowd was starting to gather, curious at what this man was doing with the hopeless mare. Lake cautiously edged along the side of the pen, staring at the nervous girl. Calmly, oh-so-calmly, he moved closer. His hands stayed by his sides, knowing that hands near an abused animal might set off their fear.
With a forced sigh, Lake moved away from the wooden fence and toward the white female. His hands stayed in sight of the mare, but not reaching toward her—he knew that would be most comfortable for her. His aqua gaze stayed on the ivory mare, ready to detect any sign of aggression.

She watched as the crazy fair-haired man jumped down from the fence....Onto her side of the fence.Okay what sane human would do that?Exactly a sane person wouldnt.Obviously only an insane one with a death wish. The human walked closer to her and she stopped her pacing to watch him.He kept his hands to his sides which was a wise move. She wasnt to happy about him being this close,or any human really but at least he told the two monster dogs to stay back at the fence.
Shaking her head she backed up only to hit the bars of the fence.Perfect, she was trapped.Angel reared up neighing and stomping her hooves on the ground.Could she get no space of her own?The humans sky blue gaze almost dared her to charge at him.She wouldnt do that unless she had to,which would probably be very soon if he didnt mind his distance.

Lake sensed that his dogs made the young mare uncomfortable. He suddenly wished he had found out her name when he had looked at her information. With a soft cough, the man moved to the fence again, but still closer to the ivory female. Luckily, the paper with her information was taped to the posts just below him. There were still a few people milling about, which irritated him. They were staring and whispering in a way that made Lake want to punch them. Not to mention, a crowd would only serve as a stresser for an abused animal. He looked up at the crowd with intense annoyance, then bent over the fence and took the paper off. The information he had so quickly forgotten was pleasing to him, despite the part that stated she was a hand-full. Fly Like An Angel “Angel”; Arabian; mare; 4 years; white; trained; problematic. Well, Lake liked her, even if her information yelled don’t buy me. He sighed softly, looking over the information one more time.
With a cough, L bent back over the fence and replaced the information—not that any of the people around were interested in the horses. Obviously, they just wanted to see the show that the young man could give them. That irritated him to no end. Why did they have to watch him try and confront this mare? It was only annoying because he was interested and it seemed as if their whispering and staring was because they found him crazy. Clearing his throat loudly, he looked up at the crowd before jumping back down. Some of them dispersed after meeting his icy blue gaze, but others just shrugged it off and continued to watch. He grunted and turned away, acknowledging that he couldn’t get them to leave. It was semi-disgusting to him, but that level of passion wasn’t there yet. L hopped off the wooden fence and back onto the solid ground. His eyes paid careful attention to the Angel’s body language, still fearful of an attack. His hands at his sides again, L approached her.
The poor mare was back completely against the fence, causing Lake to stop advancing. He pitied her fear, and didn’t want to push her any further. “Hey, there, girl. Hey, Angel . . .” he said softly, keeping his voice as low and as soothing as possible. He imagined that the pricetag on this beautiful ivory equine was low, considering the fact that she was such a problem horse. Though, L didn’t really look at her like she was a problem—a challenge is what she was, and a beautiful creature that he wanted to rehabilitate. The young man pulled out a mint from his pocket, carefully but quickly unwrapping it. He held it out hesitantly for the mare, while cooing to her. “I’ve got a treat for you . . .” His voice was still low and calm, trying to convey that he would not harm her.

The human went back over to the fence and picked up what she guessed was a small piece of paper that held her information. Her price was probably lower than most horses but she couldnt do anything about it,that was just the way she was.She flicked her blonde tail in annoyance. The human made his way back over to her after a few minutes with something in his hand.Angel flinched as he held his hand out, thinking that it would be something to hurt her with.As his arm was outstretched, she saw that it was only a mint.Like it was on cue,her stomach made a small growling noise. She immediatly turned her gaze to glare at the offending noise maker.
It had been a few days since the Arabian had last eaten but she had gone longer without any food. She stretched her neck out slowly to sniff at his hand before jerking back. Her ears pricked as they picked up the sound of whistles and other sounds coming from the crowd."You wont get anything from her mister!","Your an idiot for even being interested in her!",and all kinds of other things were called out at the young man.At least she wasnt the only one who thought he was an idiot.

The blue gaze that Lake held was consistently on Angel, ignoring the crowd that was becoming a little rowdy. Though he would have liked to yell at some of those people and show them how to properly treat a horse, he had to keep his cool so this mare wouldn’t lose hers. Irritation was definitely eating away at him because that crowd was so insensitive and seemingly oblivious to the abuse that was obvious of Angel’s past. They were making things worse! None of those people that just watched should be in the auction house; none of them knew how to truly treat a horse! He was slowly pissing himself off, and he needed to focus on the mare. He couldn’t allow the ignorant outside forces to upset the job he had at hand. L really wanted to get this mare to calm down and trust him, but he had a feeling that it might take a while. The freaking crowd wasn’t making it any better, either. Frustration began to well-up inside of him, even when he tried to keep his mind totally on the ivory mare. It wasn’t working because those people weren’t working.
Lake was actually able to totally focus on the mare when he heard her stomach rumble. He knew that the mint he had held out to her must have been incredibly tempting. He smiled a little bit, finding the way that she jerked her head around to glare at her stomach endearing. It took a bit of concentration, but L kept the hand that was holding the mint totally still. His other hand was at his side still. He probably looked comical, but he didn’t mind because the outcome would be totally worth it. His aqua-hued eyes were earnest in the way that they gazed at Angel, pleading with her to let him touch her; asking her to give him his trust even if she was abused and he was a stranger. Lake had learned a long time ago that one needed to handle ones horses like they would handle humans. If one didn’t, then there would be a tense bond between that horse and rider, instead of the natural, easy one that should be there.
When Angel stretched out her neck, reaching to Lake’s hand, he had a feeling of euphoria. It was sweet, having an abused animal show that smallest sign of trust. But she jerked her head away before she touched him, and the fair-haired young man felt a small amount of bitter disappointment. Though, just the fact that she had sniffed his hand was an accomplishment. It was farther than those repulsive handlers had gotten, because their handling was abusive in its own way. Lake smiled even though he pulled away, keeping his hand out with determination. The smile slipped away when people started whistling in the crowd. But then he heard words that pissed him off beyond reasoning. “You won’t get anything from her, mister!” was the first yell that was loud enough for him to hear. Okay, he could calm down and ignore that. “You’re an idiot for even being interested in her!” That one crossed the line. Lake was glad that Angel couldn’t understand what was being said.
Calmly, oh-so-calmly, Lake set the mint on the wooden post closest to Angel, not looking at her. He did it in a way that shouldn’t come off as threatening. Then, with a blank face, he walked to the edge of the pen and jumped out. The crowd grew suddenly quiet. L prepared a calm speech for the offending, ignorant people. “So I’m not going to get anything out of her? I’m an idiot for even attempting? Get out. You don’t deserve to be around horses if you’re going to be so insolent and ignorant as to watch an abused horse try to escape a human. I only wish to help her, because she is a beautiful, promising horse; with the right care, she could become a champion. I hope you’re all there when this mare takes me to a championship. Then we’ll see who’s really an idiot.” The crowd stopped, then left immediately. Lake was satisfied with how calm he had kept throughout the whole lecture.
L saw one of the men that had been handling Angel earlier. “How much is she?” he called. The man didn’t even stop walking. “Just take her. We don’t need the bitch around.” He was incredibly offended by the man’s words, but ignored them. A lead rope was tossed to him and landed at his feet. Annoyed, L picked it up and set it gently on the fence. He jumped back into the pen with Angel, grabbed the lead, and cooed at her. His approach was slow and easy, presenting the lead rope to Angel so she might be able to approve of it.

The crowd was becoming rougher and shouting all kinds of vulgar and un-nice things. If she didnt feel bad before, she felt even worse than that. All the things they were shouting made her more aware of how broken and damaged she was.Angel had always been put down,as most abused horses were, most of her life. She couldnt remember a time she hadnt been other than when she was a foal.Shaking her mane down in front of her face, she hung her head looking down at the ground. She knew she wasnt worth anything, just a waste of space and time. All things she had heard and been told thousands of times.
Angel refused to look up until the man left. She didnt want him to go but he had probably seen what a lost cause she was and decided he didnt want her. Then she heard him start talking toward the crowd.“So I’m not going to get anything out of her? I’m an idiot for even attempting? Get out. You don’t deserve to be around horses if you’re going to be so insolent and ignorant as to watch an abused horse try to escape a human. I only wish to help her, because she is a beautiful, promising horse; with the right care, she could become a champion. I hope you’re all there when this mare takes me to a championship. Then we’ll see who’s really an idiot.” She had slowly raised her head to look at him during this.Maybe this human wasnt so bad after all.
During this, the white mare spied the mint on a post a little ways away from her.Her stomach grumbled again and she rolled her eyes, she wasnt that hungry but she still wanted the mint. She took a few steps toward the post, reaching out to nibble on it before grabbing it with her teeth and eating it.Letting a small smile come to her face, she licked her lips savoring the taste of the now eaten mint. She even went so far as to lick the part of the post that the mint was on.It tasted so good but she was disappointed when there was no more of it.She wondered if the human, she had now dubbed "Blondie",would give her more.
"Blondie" had come back over to her with some kind of a rope in his hands.Angel stepped back, having flashbacks of her being tied and drug with ropes like that. She looked around in panic, darting off toward the other horses, trying to hide or blend in with them,so "Blondie" couldnt find her.He would though, considering she was the only horse with a bright purple halter, that looked almost new.The rest of the horses looked at her strangely and she glared back at them.As this was happening an old man had come up beside Lake watching the mare."Sonny your gonna need some help getting her out,I can guarentee you that. She definitly wont come out by choice. The only way shes gonna come outta here is by the same way she came in,which is by force" The old man said to him rolling his sleeves up as he went to grab a long stringy whip from the box attached to the fence. This would not end well, anyone could tell that as the old man started to approach the mare, moving the other horses out of the way.

Lake didn’t expect his little speech to change those people that appeared so sadly ignorant. He didn’t even hope that—the whole point was to get them to leave. He had gotten what he asked for, but he was still annoyed by the fact that they had so little consideration for an abused animal. If this mare was in perfect form, then they would have treated her like a god. It was a pet peeve of his—to treat someone or something differently just because of their looks and past. Maybe it was from a past experience, or just a natural instinct, but he could not stand being judged. It was an instinct that all human beings had, but one could deny it and keep their mind open either way. It was a deep set peeve that drove him crazy, because he was a firm believer in finding a champion out of the ashes.
The fair-haired young man watched with disappointment as the white mare shied away from his rope. He sighed and watched the graceful movements she made, even if they were in a panicked escape. Her legs were long and muscular, obviously built for competition and bragging. Lake knew he could make a gorgeous champion out of this mare, if only she would realize that he wanted to train her the right way. Pulling his eyes away from the equine that was seeking refuge in a group of other equines, he looked around the pen in semi-frustration. His eyes locked on the post he had left the mint on. A small amount of satisfaction settled on his heart at its barenness. The mare had taken the treat, and that was an accomplishment even if she took it when he wasn’t looking. L found it adorably sneaky. Anyways, he wasn’t going to gain her trust with a silly treat. She was probably tricked like that multiple times throughout her life.
The mare was nervously milling about amongst the group of horses, with Lake watching her. A man came up beside him, apparently climbing the fence without him even realizing it. The young man looked at the older, bearded guy with cool eyes. “Sonny, you’re gonna need some help getting her out, I can guarantee you that. She definitely won’t come out by choice. The only way she’s gonna come outta there is by the way she came in, which is by force.” Lake began laughing at the absurdity of that, but the man simply left. He assumed he wasn’t going to come back—just another one of those people that found him stupid for even trying. He sighed softly and drove the man out of his mind, attempting to focus completely on Angel. If he was going to get the girl out alone, his focus was going to have to stay completely on her.
Then something came into Lake’s line-of-sight that horrified and shocked him at the same time. One would think that after his little speech that he didn’t work by whips and force. But no, this dolt had to come into the goddamn pen and mess everything up. The scruffy man had a whip and was approaching the mare, effectively pushing the other horses out of the way. No! was all that L could think as Angel was backed against the fence. Why would he trap her?! THE IDIOT! He snapped the whip once, just to scare her, then actually swung it at her—and kept swinging. “NO!” The young man’s yell was loud and feral; he advanced upon the other guy while dropping his lead. Lake jumped on the man’s back. They both fell to the ground. The other man broke away from L, cussing and angry. He flung the whip back at Angel in fury, then proceeded to walk pissily out of the pen. “You idiot!” L screamed, infuriated. His eyes went back to Angel taking in what happened to her.

Then the mare saw the stringy whip the old man was holding. If they thought she panicked earlier, then this would be nothing compared to what was about to happen. She pushed her way out of the herd right as the first crack of the long stringy whip came down.Darting around the pen,the ugly old man kept following her until he had backed her into a corner.Again he cracked the whip makiing her back up until her bottom was at the very back of the corner. She reared as he swung at her,and struck out at him,her hoof being caught on the next swing.Looking around in panic and fear,Angel tried to run at him effectivly making him move as she ran around the pen again trying to escape him.The arabian looked around desperately for a way to escape. There was none, the only way out would be for the gate to be unlocked.Or she could jump out.She decided that the former would be unlikely so she chose the latter. To try and jump her way out.
Angel ran around the pen trying to dodge the old mans attackes barely being missed as a couple had taken a few tufts of hide off her and a small scratch on her back.As she ran,she wondered where the young man that had defended her was.She spied him just standing there off in his thoughts.Well there went her tiny bit of trust for him.Was there no one she could trust? The mare ran around once more trying to find the lowest point of the pen, which would be the gate. Now Angel was more than a decent jumper, considering most of her medals were either gold or silver, but she had never jumped the height of the gate before. But she had to try.Running around a couple more times to gain a bit more speed, she took sprinting off at the gate.
Her intention was to leap over the gate...that didnt happen at all.Instead of gracefully leaping over she slammed into it.She did it again and was only able to get about half-way over before she managed to push her self over and toppled onto the ground. The mare shook her head, trying to clear up the fogginess as she recognized the young man beating the hell out of the older one.And then there was the sharp stabbing pain in her back leg.Angel tried to get back up to her feet and managed to stay there for a second until she collapesed back down to the ground.A peice of wire attached to the gate and gotten stuck into the top of her left back leg as she went over. She tried to get up again only to have a painful neigh in her effort as the peice of wire went deeper and ripped the wound farther. It didnt help matters get any better as she had probably sprained that hoof also.Blood started to run out as a few crimson drops spilled onto the ground.THe injured mare laid there looking pitiful and in pain. She was sure that her life would be over after this.

Lake Bundy wasn't one to just sit back and watch another person do something he didn't like, but his thoughts had caught him in a cage that for some reason he couldn't get out of. It was surprising to think that he had sat there and watched for a bit as the other man whipped Angel, and he didn't do anything. The young man felt terrible for sitting back - it wasn't like he had meant to. The mare was probably terrified and registered that he wasn't going to help her. But L wouldn't know - she was a horse and he was human, meaning their understanding of each other was limited to trust and loyalty. Lake had probably just destroyed whatever trust the gorgeous mare had in him. Oh well, there was nothing that he could do. He was just going to have to work that much harder to gain her trust - which he really didn't mind.
If Lake had been upset earlier, what he felt know would never be able to be contained. He hoped that he never had to see that man again, because he would tear him apart if he had to. His blue-eyed gaze took in the ivory-painted mare laying pitifully on the ground, just past the gate. L couldn't believe that she had attempted to jump the extremely high fence - and succeeded. It was completely stupid and reckless, but the mare was driven by instinct. He couldn't blame her, because he would probably do something similar. What he was thinking was how on earth had she managed to jump it?! Sure, she was full of adrenaline and fear, but most equines couldn't jump that fence; it was built to keep the amazing jumpers in! L's mind started to wander to her jumping ability . . . but jerked back because she wouldn't be that great of a jumper if he didn't help her.
Instead of jumping the fence next to where Angel was - Lake knew jumping it so close might startle her - he went to a side that was a safe distance away, but she could see him when he jumped down and when he approached her. He didn't want to scare her anymore than she already had been. The young man quickly jumped over the wooden posts. His body was in great shape due to constantly moving and the actual liking of working out. Calmly, L approached the white female, now holding the lead rope. He moved slowly, arriving at the gate that she was laying in front of. The man sighed softly and turned to put the rope behind him before turning back to the injured mare.
"Hey, Angel . . . Shhhh. You're gonna be okay . . ." Lake said softly, trying to soothe the mare even if it was a slim chance. Lake thought that he would have to work even harder to win this female's trust, but maybe she'd see that he only wished to help her now. He got on his knees and hesitantly touched her neck, cooing at her. His eyes moved over her body, looking for the thing that was keeping her down. It couldn't be a broken leg, because she would be doing much worse if that was so. Finally, he saw the barbed wire stuck in her back leg. L sucked in a distressed breathe, but turned to look at Angel. He wanted to calm her down, so he touched her head gently, then pulled a mint out of his pocket. Lake unwrapped it and placed it in the middle of his palm, holding it out to the mare.

Angel wasnt sure what had possesed her to jump the fence. It was probably a spur of the moment descision in her effort to escape.SHe couldnt figure out if it was just fear, instinct, stupidity or what, but the now injured mare sure regretted ever thhinking the idea let alone actually doing it.And she damn well wouldnt be doing it ever again, that was for sure.If it was up to her,she would be up and running away without another thought, but she guessed as the wire dug deeper it tore a few muscles and other stuff.Just another scar and note of abuse by herself to add to the list.
From afar it only looked like the barbed wire was just hung around her leg,but up close it was actually wrapped around the top of it with the barbs tearing into her flesh with every move she made. What decent auction house kept barbed wire attached to the gate of a pen? That kind of thing was dangerous and could get a place a bad rep for doing that.No wonder she was warned about being placed in an auction.Angel had,had experiences with this kind of wire before but never with it being stuck in her.She had run into it a time or two, maybe more than two because she couldnt see it very well.Maybe if she had seen it,this wouldnt have happened.
Then there was the human. He had just stood there and watched as all this happened. If this was what was gonna happen if he took her with him, then she didnt want to go."Blondie" gave a good first impression. She had actually thought that he sort of cared a little, and that gave her a small sense of hope. But apparently she was wrong and out went the hope and trust she had for the young human.
She kept her head down as she heard footsteps coming up to in front of her,not bothering to look up.The mare felt worthless and mad realizing this was what she had come to in such a few short years.Used to when she was a yearling she would challenge anything like she could take on the world and win.Anymore she was afraid of her own shadow, feeling like it would kill her if it could."Hey,Angel...Shhhh.You're gonna be okay..." Angel heard him say as the human kneeled down beside her.Feeling him touch her neck, she jerked backwards wishing she could disappear. It was quiet except for her quick breaths and his sudden one.At this point, the ivory colored mare was ready to give up or die...which ever came first.Hopefully the latter,it would be more peaceful and happy for her. Then she smelt the mint as he held it out.She looked up flicking her gaze to the evil thing, glaring as it was one of the things that had caused what had happened.Ignoring it,she just laid her head back on the gate trying to figure out a way to get out of this mess.

There was no way that Lake was going to just leave the lovely mare here; why would one do that? He was going to do everything he could to help her, because that’s the kind of guy he was. There wasn’t the smallest doubt that he couldn’t tame this promising mare once again. If it had been done once, why couldn’t it be done again? He was still believing that this mare would buck-up and learn to trust him in the next few moments, because her future depended on it. He didn’t plan on giving up on her, and it was most likely disconcerting to the mare. L didn’t care, though. Angel deserved to have someone believe in her. She definitely didn’t deserve the abuse that was apparent all over her body. He wanted to help her so bad, but she seemed to be rebelling against his every touch.
Lake had felt the ivory female jerk away earlier, flinching at her sign of fear. The fair-haired man gulped, still waiting for Angel to acknowledge his offerring. The mare brought her head up and looked at the mint, something malicious in her eyes. He wanted to laugh at the glare, because it was nearly comical. Not many horses were that great at expressing their emotions, but L thought he might have found a winner. He smiled despite himself and everything around him. It was nice to see that this mare could make him smile, even though that was probably the last thing she wanted to do to him. L rolled his eyes at the way she dropped her head to the ground, almost as if she was trying to be over-dramatic. Maybe he and this mare would get along easier than he thought.
Knowing that the mare couldn’t get up, Lake left her side and went to a small shed near the pen. There were lead ropes and various tack in there. He had to dig around to find a pair of wire cutters. Eventually, he found a pair and brought them back to Angel. He knew that the sharp thing might spook her, so he set them down so she couldn’t see them. He met the mare’s eyes for a second, then made cooing noises as he turned away and toward her leg. Lake pulled gently on the wire, then snipped it quickly. He had to cut in a few more places before he could take them out. Instead of taking them out immediately, L clipped the lead to Angel’s halter and turned back to her leg. She would be able to get back up once the wire was out. Gently, so gently, he pulled the pieces out and set them so that Angel wouldn’t step on them. He turned quickly back to the mare, grabbing the rope.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | | [atrb=background,http://i49.tinypic.com/258c67o.jpg] This was probably a strange sigh to see.An injured and abused arabian jumper and a young man trying to offer her a mint.If you thought about it,it was kinda funny.Angel closed her eyes willing for everything to disappear:the auctions, the other horses, the people, and even the man,but mostly herself. All she wanted to do was to forget and disappear, like everyone else involved in her life had.Even the ones she had known since foal-hood had vanished, gone to stay on the happy little retirement farm that they had all been brought to for a supposed "Temporary Stay",when the only one that had been temporary was her.To the ivory mare,it wasnt fair. But then again, what was fair anymore?
As she opened her eyes, she spied the blondish haired man getting up and leaving her.'Finally,a little peace before I actually go to pieces' Angel thought a little ridiculously and suddenly snorted, another thought popping into her mind. The peace was ended sort when he came back with a pair of cutters. She could only hope they were to help her,and not hurt her.Blondie came over to her and when he started making cooing noises at her,she just stared like he was looney.Sure maybe it worked for foals and yearlings but really?Angel knew what he was trying to do but it wasnt working that well. Her nerves were already to frazzled to be fixed right now so this was as calm as she could be without being under a sedative or sleeping.
When the man pulled and started cutting the wire,Angel kicked her leg out wanting him to stop.It already hurt, and she didnt want it to get any worse. He hooked the lead to her amazingly bright purple halter, how it still looked all shiny and new she'd never know, and pulled the peices of wire out of her leg.Thankfully he was gentle about it getting them out fairly quickly without hurting her.He stepped back still holding onto the rope,as Angel launched herself forward wincing at the movement of her leg.Trying to keep as much weight off of her leg as possible, she nodded her head looking at Blondie.
