It had been an incredibly long day for James. There hadn’t been much to do at the vet clinic, so it was mostly just sitting around behind the counter. He hadn’t minded though, he had always been lazy. After he got off work he had taken Jack home, tossed an acoustic guitar in the back seat of his truck, and set off for town. He figured he might as well entertain someone with some music, but only after he had eaten, so he drove to the diner. It was a nice little place, and it smelled good inside, like fresh bread. He pulled the guitar from the back and laid it across the front seat so he could grab it after he ate. Stepping out of the truck he walked inside the diner and took a deep breath of all the smells.
There wasn’t a line, which was awesome. Seeing fish and french fries on the menu he grinned and said I’d like some fish and chi- french fries, please. He had momentarily forgotten that they were called french fries here. Even after living in the U.S. for 9 years he still had trouble with stuff lik that. Sighing he leaned against a wall as she waited for his food. When it was ready he took it, said a thank you, and went off to find a seat. James settled into a small booth in a corner, and started to eat, happy that he had finally found some fish and chips somewhere. He ended up zoning out, and not paying nearly enough attention to the people around him.

Asheligh walked through the diner's doors and went up to the counter to order. She took a look at the menu and quickly decided on what to get. By the time the waitress at the front called her up she had decided on a cheeseburger and a medium Mtn. Dew. The waitress looked at her waiting for her to order. "I would like a cheeseburger and a medium Mtn. Dew." She said. The waitress nodded and said"That will be 4 dollars and 05 cents." Ashleigh pulled out the money and handed it to her. She handed Ashleigh her food and Ashleigh left. She grabbed a straw for her Mtn. Dew and sat down at a table. It was a small two person table next to a corner table were someone was already sitting at. She had a couple bites of her burger. It was suprisingle good for a diner and had some Mtn. Dew. She noticed that the guy sitting at the corner table seemed to be off in a sort of daydream.

James was eventually jolted back to reality by the clatter of dishes hitting the floor. Jerking his head around towards the counter, he saw that someone had dropped their plate, splattering a burger and ketchup everywhere. Chuckling slightly, James glanced down at his food. He was half way done, with about half of his water left. Sighing, he finished the last bit of it. Glancing out of the corner of his eye he noticed that someone had taken the table next to his. She was pretty, and James smiled slightly. Remembering his guitar, he went to the owner of the place and asked if he could come in and play, to entertain.
After confirming that it was fine, he jogged out to the truck to grab his guitar. Slinging it over his shoulder, he settled down outside on a bench outside the diner and started playing, singing along easily. People stared, mostly out of annoyance he noticed. Shrugging to himself he kept playing, he tried to play songs most people would recognize, but that could be hard sometimes. As he played he noticed that girl again, smiling to himself he kept on, hoping she would come over.

Ashleigh smiled at guy as he smiled at her. She finished her food and took her trey to the trash can. She threw away her food warpper and pop. She set the trey down were the other people had placed their treys. She walked back to her table and sat down. She noticed that the guy sitting at the corner table left and spoke to the manager. He came back and took his guitar outside. Asheligh wondered were he was going and what he asked the manager. She noticed that more people started coming into the diner. She saw the guy again. He was playing the guitar.
Ashleigh walked outside of the diner and sat down on a banch. She listened to the guy play. He was very good. Asheligh had learned to play strings a long time ago when she was in middle school. Then she had quit and learned to play trumpet instead. Though she still occansionaly played her violin she wasn't that good after ebing out of pratice for a long time. Ashleigh came up to him and said"Your good. I'm Ashleigh whast your name?" She said and asked him at the same time. Though she didn't play strings that often though maybe once a week for half an hour she knew a good string player when she saw one for sure.

James seemed to have gathered quite a crowd when he finally looked up from playing. A few people were loitering, watching but pretending to be on the move. Some had just stopped altogether and leaned against a pole to watch. Hearing a voice to the side he turned to see who it was. It was that girl again, talking to him. He smiled and said, "Thanks, been playing for a while. I'm James, nice to meet ya, miss. Been here all you're life or just moved here?" It was true, he had been playing for a while and it was nice to meet her. He also just wanted to know where she had come from. Had she been born here? Or moved here like himself?
Strumming out a few chords subconsciously, he tried to think up something to play, but had no luck. Setting the guitar down beside him he stretched, joints popping in his body. Sighing heavily, he leaned back against the bench and glanced at the girl again. Do you play any instruments? I only play guitar, but I sing sometimes too. He was mainly trying to make small talk, she seemed nice. Smiling to himself, he leaned back again to wait for an answer.

Ashleigh said"Yup. I moved here when I was twelve. Nice to meet you James." She said and smiled at him. Do you play any instruments he asked her. Ashleigh nodded and said"Yes. I play violin at least once a week for 30 minutes. It's not much but it keeps me in tune. Oh cool." Ashleigh said to James. He had an accent not an american one for sure. Maybe Australian or British? Ashleigh guessed. He didn't talk like an Australian but she had met many British people who talked like they were Australian or vice versa. She didn't ask. It was hot. She grabbed a ponytail holder from her wrist and put her long brown hair back into a ponytail.

James smiled and nodded at her as she answered, and said "I moved to the states when I was 13, but my parents moved us around until I moved out and settled here." The sun beat down, and with only a flimsy balcony type thing for shade, it really hit hard. Glancing around for a fan, or anything to make a breeze with really, he spotted a piece of paper laying on the ground. It was a flyer for some kind of festival that had gone on a few days ago. When she told him she played violin his eyebrows arched up and he said, Huh, I never really bothered with the more classical stuff, I guess you could say. I generally play rock music on an old electric.

Ashleigh listened as James said he moved the the United States when he was 13 but he never really settled down untill he moved out and came here to this small community."Were did you come from?" She asked James. It sure was hot but Ashleigh didn't mind really. She loves the sun and doesn't get sunburned. It's probably 80 degree's or higher. Ashleigh guessed. She listened as James spoke again saying he never really bothered with classical and how he usually played rock music on an old electric guitar. Ashleigh never really pegged him as a rock music guy but well what can you expect? Ashleigh had never met a guy who liked classical. Ashleigh loved classical music it was so soothing to her.
