There are four seasons in which to die...
The storytellers speak this tale and believe it to be true. Trust them or don’t; their eyes have seen much more than yours ever will.
Do you trust the very land beneath your feet? The forest may look like a refuge, but is it really a labyrinth yearning for your death? The wind brushes against your side, but the touch lingers like warm flesh and words bounce in your ears, echoing lies. In the distance you can hear the angry roar of the ocean bellowing its fury to the gathering clouds above. Rain brings with it the bitter taste of acid and it seems the rocks have closed their doors, offering you no refuge. This is no peaceful land or paradise for the lost. This is a world shaped by Mother Nature’s mysteries and the seasons’ wrath.
Canines have been granted the powers of the elements and allowed to live in these parts of the country, but this treasure didn’t come with sacrifice. Their seasonal brothers were enraged to share the power they had once only wielded and exacted their revenge. Darkness, as black and smothering as a shadow, was released upon the world in a fury of raven wings and many were slowly brought to corruption. Those who remained managed to exile their brutal kin and the two sides were able to coexist… for a time. Now groupings of young rebels have begun to gather and mix, a dangerous dance of seduction and power. Many believe these differences do not affect them anybody, but those few who are still ruled by tradition stay strict in their separated ways. It is still taboo for those of different sides to mate, though some are willing to take such risks.
Do you hold firm to your end of the spectrum, or cross into the gray that floods the middle? Choose wisely; nature and her accomplices are not kind-hearted to the unresolved. The waves still crash your name with hate. And although the opinions of your brethren are volatile, don’t forget. The season’s deception is far worse than the hearts of your brothers.
...and yet, you insist, you can survive.
